ASAP recognizes that we are in an industry largely dominated by the need for paper. As environmental concerns become increasingly important on a global level, ASAP is committed to finding ways in which we can reduce our carbon footprint and be more environmentally responsible to offset the effect that our industry and our business practices impact the environment.

Bruce Trail Donation Campaign

In order to promote and encourage our eco-initiatives, ASAP will be making a $0.10 per page donation to the Bruce Trail Conservancy for every transcript order on all work taking place at our Bay Adelaide Centre office in Toronto from the months of July through September.

The Bruce Trail, Canada's oldest and longest footpath, provides the only continuous public access to the magnificent Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. It is one of only fifteen such reserves in all of Canada.

The Bruce Trail Conservancy is a registered charitable organization committed to establishing a conservation corridor containing a public footpath along the Niagara Escarpment, in order to protect its natural ecosystems and to promote environmentally responsible public access to this UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Their goal is to raise funds to prevent the loss of private lands currently for sale along the Bruce Trail's conservation corridor, and to protect and maintain in perpetuity the unique natural diversity of the Niagara Escarpment on behalf of everyone in Ontario.

We are pleased to be aligned with this initiative to not only give back to the environment, but do so with a focus on a local initiative that benefits all Ontarians. Our goal is to donate a minimum of $2500 to the Bruce Trail Conservancy. We will be holding an event in mid-October in conjunction with the Bruce Trail Conservancy, offering a guided hike along the trail followed by a reception where we will announce the results of our campaign. Our clients, their friends and family are all invited to spend an afternoon exploring the wonders of the area and learn more about it and the Conservancy's endeavours to protect our environment. Stay tuned to our Events page for more information on the event!

In concordance with our environmental endeavours, ASAP plans to promote this event and campaign via electronic means only. Please help us spread the word by informing your colleagues of this campaign. We hope to exceed our planned goal and will be providing regular updates as to our efforts and our clients' participation!

ASAP is pleased to offer our transcripts in electronic format only, reducing the requirement for paper. We recognize that paper transcripts are still required in some situations; therefore, we can also provide our transcripts on recycled paper and in double-sided format, to help reduce our and our clients' impact on the environment.

Current Measures

ASAP has implemented a number of measures in order to reduce our environmental impact. Below is an overview of the measures we are currently undertaking.

Client Initiatives

ASAP encourages our clients to consider their available options when placing their transcript orders. Transcripts can be provided paperless in the format of your choice, including formats compatible with a variety of litigation support software. We are also pleased to provide our transcripts on recycled paper and printed double sided to reduce the number of pages used.

ASAP also encourages electronic methods for our invoicing and payments. Invoices can be sent in electronic format to our clients, thereby reducing printed paper and envelopes and the environmental impact of the postal service. Payments are accepted by credit card (Visa and MasterCard) and electronic funds transfer. Contact our office to make arrangements and to receive more information on your options. ASAP is pleased to provide state-of-the-art videoconferencing facilities at our Toronto office and we can also arrange videoconferences in Ottawa and other locations around the world. Videoconferencing is an efficient way to arrange for meetings and other events, saving on costly and time consuming travel which further reduces your carbon footprint. We are pleased to make all the arrangements on our clients' behalf, further saving you valuable time!

Office Building

Located in Toronto's first and only "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design" certified building, the Bay Adelaide Centre, ASAP gives you a breath of fresh air.

LEED is an internationally recognized scorecard used to evaluate the sustainability of building design and construction practices. These buildings are designed and built using strategies intended to foster energy efficiency, water efficiency, atmosphere, and reduce landfill waste. LEED certification begins long before breaking ground and carries forward through the building's infinite future. To meet LEED's Gold Standard, over 50% of construction waste was diverted from landfills through reuse and recycling of materials. As a completed LEED building, The Bay Adelaide Centre features CO2 monitoring and demand control ventilation. Since CO2 is emitted with every breath, the more people in a space, the higher the CO2. When levels rise, we tend to get sleepy, have trouble focusing, and some people even develop headaches. Demand control ventilation with CO2 sensors lets you adjust the fresh air ventilation rate to suit the changing needs of the space and thus saving energy costs during times of lower occupancy levels. As a result, BAC provides a healthier work environment which directly contributes to higher productivity and increased comfort levels.

Conduct your business with ASAP and you will experience air quality as if you were hiking through the Bruce Trail!

Kitchen Area

Inspired by the Bay Adelaide Centre's initiatives, ASAP has taken more measures to reduce our carbon footprint. In our state-of-the-art kitchen we guarantee that you won't find any paper in our plates! Explore the cupboards in our fully self-serve kitchen and you will find ceramic plates for your snack or lunch; ceramic coffee mugs for your morning break; glasses for your beverage of choice; stainless steel utensils; biodegradable soap; and environmentally friendly paper products and cleaning supplies. Our kitchen features Energy Star appliances and the option of filtered water as opposed to bottled.

Our daily catering is provided by local companies who deliver our orders on foot instead of by car.

Tantalize your taste buds with less worry of environmental impact.

Office Space

With the energy efficient curtainwall window system allowing daylight to pour through our office, it's only our printer that can 'sleep' during business hours!

Each ASAP office has a multi-function printer to which each staff member is linked. With it's capability to print, scan, fax electronically, and copy we have reduced the amount of standalone units in our office. The use of a multi-function printer reduces energy consumption and supplies such as toner over individual printing units. All toner cartridges are sent back to our supplier for recycling. It also features a "sleep mode"; after a period of inactivity it will reduce its energy consumption by powering down but not turning off completely.

Other measures undertaken include the reuse of all boxes and packaging materials, going beyond regular recycling programs by offering organic waste in each office, and raised awareness for recycling and waste reduction through increased signage.

ASAP Staff

Members of the ASAP team understand that making a difference is a lifestyle commitment that begins anew each morning. With 75% of our staff using public transit or carpooling, we have reinforced our values and are committed to evolve in an ever-changing environment. While conducting everyday business we make many efforts to communicate our initiative to clients and suppliers. Decisions are made based on this initiative, including choices like the use of bicycle couriers or recycled products whenever feasible. Our promotional materials include items such as reusable grocery bags made out of recyclable materials and BPA free water bottles. When our workday is over we each ensure that our computer and equipment is shut down completely in an effort to reduce energy consumption.

Future Commitments

Our current measures are only the beginning as we endeavour to exceed expectations for environmental responsibility. We will continue to strive for new and creative ways to support environmental initiatives, including the use of environmentally conscious products and suppliers and the monitoring of our carbon footprint.

At ASAP we have made it our mission to become more socially responsible and we want to help our clients in their missions to do the same. Make ASAP your environmental agency of choice and please help us make a difference by not only participating in this campaign, but promoting it to others.

If you wish to share any suggestions or ideas about our initiative, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@asapreportingservices.com.
